Michelin North America Inc. is offering
This is the first time Michelin has offered a warranty on winter tires in the U.S. The company has, however, offered a 60,000-kilometer/five-year warranty in Canada on the same tires since Sept. 1, 2010. The warranty in Canada sets the prescribed winter driving period from Sept. 1 to April 30.
“Our innovative designs and advanced tread compounds have allowed us to offer industry-leading warranties, and now we’re able to do the same in the winter tire category,” said Andrew Koury, Michelin’s winter tire category manager.
Michelin also covers the tires for material and workmanship.
To keep the treadwear warranty valid over the life of the tires, customers must have the tires inspected and rotated every 6,000 to 8,000 miles and the pressure set as recommended on the vehicle placard.
As with most treadwear warranties, consumers who fail to achieve 40,000 miles on the tires within the prescribed conditions will receive a pro-rated credit toward a new purchase.
Michelin X-Ice and Latitude X-Ice winter tires use advanced tread block technology—which Michelin describes as a combination of multiple sipes and micro-pumps—together with a silica-based rubber compound called FleX-Ice.
The Greenville, S.C.-based tire maker launched the X-Ice line of tires in 2004.
